Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont admits defeat, vows to fight on

Madrid "wins" and the battle for Catalonia is "over," separatist leader Carles Puigdemont said in private messages. Soon thereafter, however, the politician publicly pledged to keep up the fight for independence.
